We are working to create a coordinated community-based system of care where people receive care and support regardless of where they live or their ability to pay, thereby transforming the way we serve individuals to improve their well-being and health outcomes.

The Problem
Demand for services continues to grow, while a workforce shortage, unnecessary barriers, and inadequate resources limit providers' ability to meet that need. In the face of a growing mental health crises, our shared commitment to improving health outcomes, reducing unnecessary healthcare costs, and ensuring transparency in government actions has never been more critical.

Transforming Michigan’s behavioral health infrastructure to a coordinated community-based system
The Solution
Transforming Michigan’s behavioral health infrastructure to a coordinated community-based system in order to ensure that people have access to affordable, high-quality mental health care and treatment and recovery services for substance use disorders. Community-based care is essential because it shifts the focus of care from hospitals and law enforcement back to the community and ensures all people have access to interconnected services that promise better behavioral health outcomes.

The Path Forward
Together, we can transform Michigan's behavioral health landscape into a more equitable, accessible, and effective system for all, creating a legacy of health, hope, and resilience for all of Michigan.
We can do this by:
ADVANCING
Advancing Efficiency, Opening Access, and Reducing Redundancy
Supporting the expansion of CCBCHs while protecting agencies who don’t qualify.
Streamlining the credentialing process and removing other unnecessary barriers.
Making telehealth permanent.
Addressing redundancy in auditing and reporting processes.
Modernizing federal and state regulations to reflect evidence-based practices.
INTEGRATING
Integrating Quality Care
Maintaining consistent, high-quality performance across all providers.
Ensuring individuals are not limited in their care options based on their location.
STABILIZING
Stabilizing the current workforce and creating a pipeline of new workers in behavioral health.
Promoting adequate reimbursement rates.
Expediting the credentialing process.
Reviewing and revising current licensing guidelines.
Creating parity within the system and an even playing field between mental health and SUD.
