Daniel Cherrin, Executive Director of the MI Care Council, joined MIRS this week to share providers' perspectives on why structural reform is essential to fixing Michigan’s behavioral health system.

The interview addressed the fragmentation of services across PIHPs and CMHSPs, the inefficiencies created by redundant administrative processes, and how those burdens are impacting care access statewide. Cherrin stressed the need for standardized systems, stronger oversight, and reinvestment in models that work—such as Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs).
